Prestigious jury chosen or first-ever design competition

Reno , Nev. – A jury consisting of several nationally recognized figures in the field of architecture has been selected to judge the first-time Design Awards Competition sponsored by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Northern Nevada Chapter and RENO Magazine. The competition will recognize design characteristics of Northern Nevada and the Eastern Sierra, in categories ranging from Residential, Commercial, Public, Interior Environment, Landscapes and Sustainable Design.

The jury is comprised of R. K. Stewart, President-elect for AIA National and a prominent Bay Area architect; Gil Cooke, AIA, Dean of the New School of Architecture in San Diego; Julie Eizenberg, AIA, founding Principal of Koning Eizenberg Architecture of Santa Monica, Calif.; Andrea Turman, a Reno, Nevada-based architectural writer; and Steven Saylor, an artist from Dayton, Nev.

Call to Entries for the competition are due on Dec. 9, 2005. Submittals are due Jan. 9, 2006 and the jury will deliberate on Jan. 20, 2006. Winners will be announced at an Awards Gala and Ceremony at the Nevada Museum of Art (NMA) on May 3, 2006. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the NMA by calling (775) 329-3333.
